Flora Aussant: Innermost
In the lower part of Odense Concert Hall, the pace of the building is displaced. Light falls from above from street level, softened by textiles and flooring. A space in constant transformation, where inventory is moved, assembled, and dismantled.
Innermost takes as its starting point another place within the building: the chair storage in the basement. A space with no audience, where sound and movement is held back, and a soundproof space hosts both sleep and rehearsals.
The artwork consists of two mobile structures inspired by acoustic panels. They follow the logic of the building itself: on wheels, in circulation, without a fixed position.
One opens up and holds a transparent insert — a scaling of the soundproof space. A structure that retains and frames. A space within the space.
Another is displaced by a small slit. From here, a sound composition based on recordings from the same backstage area is transmitted. The sound appears, but swiftly evades recognition.
The two structures repeat what already exists, but redirects it. What is normally hidden, now circulates in the space.
