THE SAVIOR in FAA Project Room

THE SAVIOR – We are trying to survive our time so we may live into yours.

An exhibition by David Monberg (Funen Art Academy) & Theis Madsen (Malmø Art Academy)

This is Odense writes:

The artists have attempted to recreate an Aztec chinampa; man-made green islands floating with their roots submerged in water in order to draw nourishment from the waters’ agroculture. This water system will house an axolotl; a salamander native to the Aztec lakes in Mexico. The chinampas were the Aztec answer to increasing urbanization in their kingdom.

The installation will also feature informational plaques ingraved with illustrations depicting industrialization, ethical questions, and scientific discovery, in reference to the plaques on board the Pioneer space missions with information about human life intended for aliens to read.

According to the two artists, their exhibition aims to “(…) discuss sustainability and enter into a dialogue with the citizens of Odense in order to develop collective ideas of environment and sustainability” and they have “used the hindsight of history to gaze into a sustainable future. The exhibitions looks through time and space; from the pioneers of the universe to the first human solutions to the problems of farming and urbanization”.
