3rd year 2018
Funen Art Academy’s Third Year Exhibition 2018
27 April – 12 May 2018
Opening Thursday April 26 from 5 – 9 pm
Kunsthal ULYS, Gl. Havnekaj 25, 5000 Odense C
The third-year exhibition at Funen Art Academy is an annually recurring group exhibition that marks the conclusion of the students’ Basic Module and thereby three years of artistic work. This year ten students will complete the Basic Module, which they celebrate with new works produced specifically for the occasion. The exhibition can be viewed in the front hall of Kunsthal ULYS at Odense Harbour. It is a portrait of a class, a generation and forged friendships. But it is also a presentation of ten distinct works that reflect each individual artist’s practice and current focus.
Characterising this class is an interest in body and materiality, site-specificity, correspondence and shifts between digital and analogue methods. Such concerns are reflected in the work with the exhibition’s press material, which functions both as a collectively formulated invitation to the exhibition and as a work by one of the participating artists. They are also apparent in the individual works, which demonstrate each in their own way the collective aspect of art practice, but also form complete independent expressions.
Serving as a common focal point, landscape is central to many of the works—whether this be the physical landscape and landscape as subject matter, the mental and phenomenological landscape or the political landscape. The artists are thereby united by a desire to portray a diverse landscape extending across nationalities, artistic media and differences in an exhibition that looks ahead and opens outwardly.
The artists work with media such as video, drawing, photography, sculpture and installation.
Participating artists: Selina Rom Andersen, Unnur Björnsdóttir, Ditte Marie Frost Clausen, Rune Viggo Jørgensen, Sara Arenfeldt Kragh, Morten Larsen, Mette Rasmussen, Emil Skamstrup, Marie Vedel, Elina Bergmark Wiberg.
