Kristine Kemp – new professor

Kristine Kemp (b. 1966) lives and works in Copenhagen. She studied at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen and The Slade School of Fine Art in London during 1988-1995. Among her recent contributions to group exhibitions are Reel to Real, Künstlerhaus FRISE, Hamburg, Before Normal: Concept after Concept, Museet for Samtidskunst, Roskilde, In These Great Times, Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo, and solo shows at Gallery Cubitt, London and at YEARS, Copenhagen.

With a focus on contemporary art’s potential schism, Kristine Kemp’s practice prompts collapse, disintegration and homelessness. She operates within an art tradition with a historical and contemporary awareness, as well as a sensitivity to that which has not always happened. Through phenomena such as geography, weather and thought, she works with existential questions and creates images and objects in various media including drawing, textile and appropriated text.

In addition to her artistic activities in Denmark and abroad, Kristine Kemp has taught as a guest artist, organised workshops and participated in group evaluations of student work, primarily at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and as temporary professor at Funen Art Academy in the period 2014-15.

The Academy received 70 applications for the position from a highly qualified field, of which 25 candidates were Danish and 45 were international, with a gender distribution of 33 women and 37 men.
