Mikkel Carl: When I Give an Artist Talk…

When I give an artist talk here at here at Funen Art Academy, I usually try to establish some kind of overall narrative beforehand:

· Theme – post-industrialism, site-specificity (sensitivity), appropriation
· Context – commercial, art institutions, public space
· Chronology – early works, recent works, future projects
· Method – the construction of perceived materiality, and cues taken from actual space and specific contexts
· Art history – a personal and art-historical trajectory through collage, the readymade, conceptual art, minimalism, and installation art.

This time around, I will instead move more or less haphazardly between exhibitions and projects from the past ten years, using my Instagram profile as a guiding principle. Let’s see whether some degree of coherence emerges.
