Artist talk by Nika Kupyrova

Artist talk by Nika Kupyrova
Lecture Hall at Funen Art Academy
Monday October 27th, 1-2.30 pm
The artist talk is in English

Nika Kupyrova’s installations envision exhibition spaces as parallel worlds for the viewer to explore. In these worlds, nothing is what it seems – materials imitate other materials, 3D and 2D become interchangeable and objects mirror each other across media and disciplines. For her artist talk at Funen Art Academy, Nika Kupyrova will use examples from her past projects and talk about mistranslation, curiosity-driven research and artistic vulnerability.

Nika Kupyrova (b. 1985, Kyiv, Ukraine) is a visual artist and curator – in her predominantly sculptural artistic practice she is mainly interested in narration in the exhibition space. Her large-scale installations often have their origins in literary works and include themes such as futurism, magic, technology, ecology and labour.

Nika Kupyrova studied at the Edinburgh College of Art, Iceland University of the Arts and University of Applied Arts in Vienna and is living in working in Vienna and Prague.

Kupyrova’s work has been shown among others in Lentos Kunstmuseum (Linz, 2025), RAVNIKAR (Ljubljana, 2024), Kunstraum Lakeside (Klagenfurt, 2021) Belverede 21 (Vienna, 2019), Bonington Gallery (Nottingham, 2019), WIELS Contemporary Art Centre (Brussels, 2018), Fait Gallery (Brno, 2018), Wien Museum MUSA (Vienna, 2018), MeetFactory (Prague, 2011) and Mattress Factory Art Museum (Pittsburgh, 2011)
