The work of Oscar Dempsey in the exhibition Affect is a live performance, video interacting with an installation comprised of a wooden sculpture, latex masks and the artist. What kind of shame can be produced from the questioning of childhood memories that may be falsely created? The performance investigates this through an uncle and nephew figure as it incorporates theories of disgust, trauma and the abject.
Warning: Performance involves partial nudity and scenes of a disturbing nature.
Bianca Basan is a curious artist that starts a journey in investigating and recreating the story of “The House”. The house is divided into two parts – inside and outside – and the atmosphere of uncanny and alienation is constantly present through video installation and live performance. In the exhibition Affect Bianca wants to explore topics such as fear, the anxiety about eyesight, the transfer of spiritual and mental processes from one person to another.
Once you enter the house, you become a witness.
About the artists:
Oscar Dempsey is studying at Funen Art Academy on Erasmus from Newcastle University, UK, where he also studies Fine Art. Oscar was born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK, his practise ranges from sculpture to live performance of the body.
Bianca Basan is a Romanian artist from Iasi. She studies at Funen Art Academy and also at Universitate de Arte Vizuale “George Enescu” Iasi. Bianca has exhibited work in her home town, as well as around the country and abroad. Her practice deals with photography, video installations and performance.
