25 years at Brandts
In December 2009, Funen Art Academy celebrates its 25th anniversary on the top af the Brandts complex. The anniversary is marked by the publication of an anniversary book – all copies receive individual decorations by present and former students of Funen Art Academy.

Sanne Kofod Olsen resigns in 2009, and is replaced by art historian Merete Jankowski
2005
Sanne Kofod Olsen becomes rector
Sanne Kofod Olsen, art historian, replaces Søren Jensen as rector.
1999
Søren Jensen becomes rector
After having been acting rector for a year, Søren Jensen replaces Jes Fomsgaard as rector
1996
The Danish Ministry of Cultural Affairs evaluates Funen Art Academy
In 1996, the three Danish academies are evaluated by The Danish Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Initially, the evaluation is a large success for Funen Art Academy, as the evaluation report recommends that state subsidies for the academy are increased, and two additional professorial positions are funded. But the excitement was short-lived, as it turned out there was no desire from the Danish state to act on the recommendations of their own evaluation.
1992
Jes Fomsgaard becomes rector
In 1992, artist Jes Fomsgaard becomes rector of Funen Art Academy replacing Bendt Veber. With the recruitment of Jes Fomsgaard, the academy begins to move in a more international direction, attracting and hiring artists from differing international backgrounds.
1988
Funen Art Academy Becomes State-subsidized
Since 1988, Funen Art Academy has received an annual subsidy from the Danish state. To this day, though, the subsidy only constitutes part of the academy’s budget, the academy also being subsidized by the municipality of Odense and private funding.
1984
Moving in at Brandts
On December 14, 1984 Funen Art Academy under the leadership of rector Bendt Veber moves into the third and fourth floor of the former Brandts Textile Factory in Odense.
1944
Funen Art Academy is founded
In 1944, Kaj Kylborg founds Funen Art Academy under the name Odense Drawing and Painting School, a name that lasts until 1954. The school was situated in a house in Vestergade in Odense, where Kylborg himself lived on the 1st floor.
